Alonso dominated all the Qualifying sessions at Marina Bay Circuit, mostly staying at P1 with Hamilton and the Red Bulls posting their lap times in competition.

Alonso secured the pole with posting a flying lap of 1m 45.390s while Vettel edging out Hamilton with the lap time of 1m 45.457s, followed by Hamilton with lap time of 1m 45.571s.

The major disappointment was from Massa who failed to post any lap time on the qualifying session when his car came to a stop in the opening of first qualifying session. Ferrari reported a gearbox problem and is changing his car’s engine as a precaution. Massa will be starting at 24 from the grid.

Earlier we told you guys that Robert Kubica has signed team Renault for 2011 but as the season is nearing its end within 2 months of time, the driver changes in the top teams is starting up with Robert Kubica linked to switching to Ferrari.

A Spanish television station reported earlier that with the current contract, Robert Kubica and Felippe Massa could swap seats for the 2011 season.

And now Swiss publication Motorsport Akteull reported the same rumor saying that Massa could leave Ferrari to make room for Rober Kubica. This report also said that he might switch to Ferrari powered Sauber.

Kubica said:

Of course I read all the rumours, but in the end the only thing is winning. We are all here because we want to win and you need the best car for that. Currently I’m at Renault and so I am focused on this team and on improving together. In 2011 we want to fight for the world title. We’ll see what happens next.

In karting, Formula Renault and F3, I’ve always been with Italian teams and I even lived for more than a year near Monza. Ferrari is a team unlike any other. The emotion and the history is unique. I think every driver would like to drive for Ferrari.

Hamilton made an ambitious start at Monza gaining up to fourth place and then turned into a corner and found his brakes looked up and into Massa’s Ferrari right rear wheel, causing damage to his suspension.

Hamilton said:

I made a good start, gained a position, got up to fourth, and, at that moment, perhaps I should have just stayed there for a while, but I put my car up the inside of Felipe [Massa] into Turn Four, trying to get third, and that was probably a little bit too much. I was trying to position the car in a certain way, I was too close to Felipe, and his left rear clipped my right front. The car was damaged after that, and there was nothing I could do; you try your best, but some things just don’t go your way.

Today was a shame, and I want to say sorry to the team. But the championship certainly isn’t over – although I have to admit that days like today don’t help. The good thing is that Jenson scored a nice lot of points for us. Now, though, I’m already fully focused on Singapore.

Hamilton did not scored any points from the race and now is second in the drivers championship, 5 points behind Mark Webber.

At the start of the race, Alonso lost his pole position to Jenson Button in the first corner dropping to P2, followed by Massa on P3. Hamilton on the other silver McLaren tried being too aggressive and lost his race to a collision with Massa, scoring no point for the race. Both the Red Bulls had a disappointing start aswell with Vettel dropping to 6th nd Webber to 9th.

Alonso kept pushing Button in the early race but the silver McLaren of Jenson Button with the higher down force configuration managed to safe guard his P1.

The leaders pack stopped for their pit stops on lap 37, where Alonso took the advantage over Button and maintained it through out the race while Massa finished on P3, followed by Vettel, Rosberg and Webber on P6.

Nico Hulkenberg was the prominent from the rookies who manged to cling P7, followed by Robert Kubica.

Fernando Alonso is now well in the race for the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship and the Italian Grand Prix at Monza was without a doubt a delight for all the Italian fans who came to support their home team.

FIA told that none of the applicants were able to meet the requirements, hence leaving the 13th team slot to be dropped for 2011 season. FIA had announced the 13th spot vacancy earlier this year, after US F1 failing its bid to join the sport.

The two strongest potential candidates were Epsilon Eskadi and Jacques Villeneuve’s Durango. GP2 team ART and American-based Cypher Group dropped their bid midway through the process.

FIA statement said:

Following the press release of March 19, 2010 calling for expressions of interest to participate in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a number of interested parties expressed their interest. It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the championship. Consequently, the allocation of the 13th team will not be granted.
